Introducing the Professional Diploma in Geriatric Medicine

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, in partnership with iheed, is continually striving to enhance our educational offerings to meet the needs and expectations of our students.  

In this vein, we are thrilled to announce that the programme previously known as the "Professional Diploma in Medicine for the Older Person" will now be titled the "Professional Diploma in Geriatric Medicine". This change reflects a broader alignment with the common terminology used in this vital field of medicine. 

The benefits:

• Alignment with Professional Standards: The term 'Geriatric Medicine' is widely recognised and used in the clinical settings, representing a more direct and clear understanding of the programme's focus. Please note however that this programme is also open to nurses and other healthcare professionals working in the area of geriatric care. 

• Enhanced Clarity: This title provides immediate clarity about the programme's content and its specialisation in the healthcare of older adults. 

• Global Recognition: The new title aligns with the terminology used in similar programmes worldwide, facilitating global recognition and opportunities for our graduates.
