Claire McCarthy
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Dr Claire McCarthy is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist currently working in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. Following an undergraduate honours degree in Medicine (UCC 2011), she has been awarded an MSc. in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (UCC 2014), a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Leadership (RCSI 2020) and an Advanced Diploma in Medical Law (Kings Inns, 2021). Claire completed the DOWH (2012), MRCPI (2013) and MRCOG (2017) during her speciality training. Prior to working as a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, Claire completed a post-CSCST Fellowship in Maternal Medicine, as well as a Professional Certificate in Breastfeeding and Lactation (UCD, 2022). She was awarded the RCPI Corrigan Medal in 2013 and the ALSG Mike Davis Bursary in 2019.
To date, she has authored two book chapters, over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals, with 19 published abstracts, presenting her work over 100 times nationally and internationally. Claire’s current research focusses on Quality Improvement and Medical Education, predominantly in the Obstetric setting.
Claire’s clinical practice encompasses both obstetrics and gynaecology given her experience and expertise in maternal medicine, outpatient gynaecology, labour ward and general obstetrics and gynaecology.
She has been involved in medical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, most recently with a focus on obstetric emergency training and medication use in pregnancy and lactation. She held tutoring roles in the RCPI, as well as currently on the iHeed Diploma in Women’s Health.
