Consultant Dermatologist


Dr Patrick Echekwube is a Consultant Physician and Dermatologist. He had his undergraduate medical education at the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka before proceeding to do a residency training in Internal Medicine and sub-specialized in Dermatology at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua and the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria. He was awarded a Fellow of the Medical College of Physicians (Dermatology subspecialty) in 2016 by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Dr Echekwube is a dedicated lecturer, clinician, researcher and administrator. He was appointed the Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine department during his residency training because of his stellar academic prowess and ability to work with minimal supervision under his consultants. After obtaining his fellowship, he was appointed a Lecturer and Consultant Dermatologist at the Benue State University /Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, Nigeria where he was the pioneer Head of the Dermatology and Infectious Diseases Unit. He taught both the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the institution for several years using various teaching methods and teaching aids to enhance their understanding of the topics he taught. Dr Echekwube’s areas of research interest are pigmentary dermatoses and cutaneous infections. He received the Strauss and Katz Fund Scholarship from the American Academy of Dermatology in 2017 for his research on PUVAsol therapy in the management of vitiligo. He has also authored several publications in cutaneous infections such as Monkey-pox, Onchocerciasis and the cutaneous manifestations of HIV infection. He currently works in the Dermatology Department of the Khafji General Hospital, Saudi Arabia where he attends to all patients who present to the hospital with cutaneous disorders either at the clinics or the emergency room and the patients who need close follow-up are admitted in the wards.
