Toby Smith
Toby is Professor of Clinical Trials at the University of Warwick and Senior Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Toby’s clinical and research interests are predominantly based around the rehabilitation of older people following orthopaedic surgery. Current clinical and research areas include the rehabilitation of people following hip fracture surgery, optimising the functional recovery of people following joint replacement, and patellar dislocation. He has a particular focus on performing and developing methodology on pragmatic, randomised controlled trials of complex interventions (principally rehabilitation) and research synthesis. Toby supports the work of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and is a committee member of Technology Appraisal Committee-B. He is currently Associate Editor for the academic journals Clinical Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, and has published over 350 peer-reviewed academic papers.
