Dr Surangi Jayakody
Dr Surangi Jayakody is a distinguished academic and specialist in Public Health, with a particular emphasis on research methodologies and their pedagogical applications. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. Her postgraduate qualifications include a Master of Science (MSc) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Public Health, both obtained from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
She was awarded a research scholarship by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo, Sri Lanka which enabled her to undertake a research fellowship at Warwick Evidence, University of Warwick. During this period, she actively contributed as a member of the external assessment group, providing critical input for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines formulation process.
In addition to her extensive research experience, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to academia, with a focus on integrating research into student education. Since transition to full-time medical education in 2017, she has been leading the research methods modules, which encompasses both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, for undergraduate and postgraduate students in both Sri Lanka and the UK. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of student-led research in advancing the broader field of knowledge.
Her research portfolio includes substantial hands-on experience in medical research, serving both as a principal investigator and collaborator, with numerous publications in indexed, peer-reviewed journals. She also holds editorial responsibilities as an academic editor for the PLOS One journal and serves as a peer reviewer for several other academic journals, further underscoring her contributions to the field of Public Health research.
