Dr Ali Parsa


Dr Ali Davod Parsa has over 30 years of experience in research and teaching, as well as senior national leadership roles in public health, health management, health economics, and health policy. Dr. Parsa is an active researcher in the field of Medicine, Public Health Policy & Management, and Health Economics.

Dr Parsa is currently working as an Associate Professor of Health Economics, Policy & Management, at the School of Allied Health - Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care, Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge (UK). He has an established, proven track record of success at a very senior level of leadership, collaborative research, and teaching excellence at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels and has held a series of high-profile governmental appointments in the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in Iran before joining to the UK-HEIs.
 Dr Parsa first graduated as a qualified GP from the School of Medicine- University of Zanjan, Medical Sciences and Health Services, Iran in 1994.

He then worked for a decade as a clinician and then at senior management appointments, where Dr Parsa developed an interest in research within Healthcare Policy and Healthcare Management. Consequently, he was awarded a PhD in Health Economics from the School of Clinical Sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Research (HSR) from the School of Community Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham (UK).
 Dr Parsa is an experienced national-level health manager who has exercised health policymaking at the national strategic level.
 His success in the field of Health Management skills was recognised by a series of rapid promotions between 1994 and 2003.

His achievements in health management skills benefited from his former roles (Aug.1994 to Jan 1999) of:
 • Advisor for Pro vice-chancellor of the university in Drug & Food Safety and Healthcare Management - Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences –Iran (1998 - 1999)
 • Deputy of Director/ Acting Chief Executive Director- District Health Authority of Abadan province (Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences –Iran) (1997-1999)
 • Chief Executive Director of Taleghani Teaching Hospital (1995-1997);
 • c- Deputy of director of Primary Care Health Authority (1994-1995)
 In October 1999 Dr Parsa commenced his national leadership appointments at the Ministry of Health& Medical Education in Iran as:
 • Advisor to the Deputy of Cabinet Minister for Health in Medical Education
 • Advisor to the Deputy of Cabinet Minister for Health in Management Development, Resources, and Parliamentary Affairs
 • Member of the Board of Governors (Trustees) of the 42 Medical & Health Sciences Universities- Iran
 • Member of the steering committee for the Health Sector Reform at the Iran’s Ministry of Health& Medical Education
 • Member of the National Health Account committee at the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI) -Vice President of IRI Office)
 • Director General of Planning, Programming, Budgeting &Health Economics Department
 • Deputy of Director General of Planning, programming, Budgeting &Health Economics Department at Iran’s Ministry of Health& Medical Education and with a personal interest in the Education and R&D unit.
